The Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required for all registered nurses. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required for RNs working in the ICU or with adults. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required for RNs working with pediatric patients.

How quickly you respond to a person in a CPR crisis or First-Aid can
determine if the person survives. American Health Association (AHA) survival rate for out of hospital cardiac arrest is about 10%. AHA reports that survival rate can increase to 40% or higher when bystander CPR is performed promptly.
